Guys, this is the first time I'm faced with the choice of snare drum layers. Tell me, what and how.
In general, I would like something universal. I play indie myself, so the head needs to sound not too punchy, with small overtones, but at the same time to be able to adjust the low, dry sound.
My little guy is Yamaha tour custom air-seal maple shell.

I would vote evans genera hd dry or something single layer and a bunch of mungels.
drummies
remo emperor up and any resonator down - hezi. if it is "noisy" all the same, then glue it with a mungel, but only if it is very annoying)
kirill_an
Low and dry, this is definitely HD Dry on top. And then think further how much you need the sound of the strings. There, with the thickness of the resonant head and the strings, the variations are different.
I would put a Hazy 200 and Puresound Custom springs

Remo Powerstroke 3 with dot to the top, and Ambassador to the bottom, there is nowhere fatter, except for the Powerstroke 77, but you will find hell, just order. Well, the mungels, where without them)
pavel_drumsss
Evans HD Dry
Hazy 300
Puresound custom
sega
I would put Evans genera dry) single layer seems to me more suitable)
kirill_an
single layer will give more overtones.
sega
I gave hd more)
kirill_an
well, it's still how to set it up)
sega
low in tune)
kirill_an
the lower the tuning, the more overtones, this is physics.
if you want to tune a low, but dry sound, then take what was offered to you above and make a damper ring, buy a polyethylene film in a store for summer residents and cut out a ring from it 3-4 centimeters wide from the diameter of the drum.

Put Evans G12 Coated, tune it 266/398.

Remo Ambassador Coated, Remo control sound or Remo Emperor Coated (but the latter may contain too much fat) - top
And Remo Ambassador (normal) to resonance
There will be the most versatile, good-sounding and juicy sound
shalom
I agree with the speaker above with regards to the ambassador and the sound controller (the first will give a brighter sound). You will remove the overtones with a mungel, everything is simple)

the only thing, they say, is better after the end of the gig / rehearsal to tighten the loosened bolts, otherwise the rim can be bent.
