Jan Anderson PACE was born June 29, 1948. His father Keys worked in the orchestra for over fifteen years. Jan began his education with a special school with a technical bias, after graduating he entered college. Already at the age of 14, Pace began to beat on tin cans; chairs, cabinets, and for his 15th birthday, his father bought him a drum kit. She looked beautiful, with a red mother-of-pearl tint, but her sound was not very good. A year later, making sure that his son was seriously addicted to drums, on his 16th birthday, his father gave him a solid Premier drum set.
Initially, Ian played in the orchestra with his father, then in the group "Labirint", led by Rod Evans, later - the first vocalist of Deep Purple.
Since 1968 he has been the drummer for Deep Purple. Paice, along with his friend Lord, were permanent members of the group until its breakup in 1976.
In parallel with Deep Purple, Ian Paice helped Lord record his first solo album, The Gemini Suite, in 1971.

After the collapse of Deep Purple, in 1976, Paice, together with Lord and Tony Ashton, as well as two other musicians, formed the group "Paice, Ashton, Lord" ("PAL"), which released only one album in the style of symphonic hard rock. and broke up.
In 1979, Paice, together with Lord, helps Bernie Marsden (also played in PAL) record his solo album, and from 1980 to 1982 plays with Lord in David Coverdale's Whitesnake band.
