there is a question about recording drums at home

you need a device that will convert the analog signal-sound from microphones-to digital.

Most often, an audio interface is used for this, to receive a channel-by-channel recording with extensive editing and mixing capabilities.

Simpler and more budgetary, just a remote control, but then at the output we get just a stereo track with a minimum of editing options and you need to mix the drums immediately on the same remote control - panorama, volume, effects, etc.

and the sound card will not be more budgetary? For example, if you shoot a setup with 4 microphones (2 overs, 1 kick and 1 small), what is the best way to proceed?

  • kirill_an

how high is the bar for the end result and what is the goal (more details)?

  • pavel_drumsss

the goal is to write carpets and in particular (if possible) write material for the gang, but carpets are of higher priority

I can advise for these purposes audiksv series D, if not pull-series F.

take an audio interface with 4 pre-amplified channels.

    understood, thanks a lot!

And don't forget to have phantom power on your audio interface!

I have deduced a simple formula for myself: Zoom h4n or h5. It has its own good stereo pair and 2 more xlr inputs. One input has a separate microphone from a small one and another one has either a microphone from a barrel or a sound from a trigger. I did it with a trigger, since it is difficult to remove the barrel of norms. Then experiment with the arrangement and you can achieve a very decent result. There are 4 roads at the exit, it is possible to conduct it quite normally. The money is lifting. If you take h5, then you can turn off the native stereo pair there and get a full-fledged 4-track recorder and use external overheads. Something like that.
